In more complex diagrams the bones can potentially branch off into smaller bones to indicate a sort of chain of reaction of the root causes that lead to generate other causes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Typically, the macro causes (the 6 main lids) are categorized with the so-called 6M technique:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Men \/ people; causes due to human error.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Machines; causes attributable to a process machinery.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Methods; causes attributable to the procedures used.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Materials; causes attributable to the raw materials used.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Measurement; causes attributable to the measurement systems used.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mother nature; phenomena beyond our control. Act of God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The fishbone diagrams with the observed negative effect and with the 6M is used in a brainstorming where the participants are asked to hypothesize as many causes as possible and to report them on the diagram.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once the diagram is complete, it is possible to analyze all the possible causes (alone or in combination) of the effects (or of the problem) in order to develop a <a href=\"https:\/\/danielepais.com\/journal\/sliced-invoices-is-my-choice-for-billing\/\">solution<\/a> to mitigate it.
