Have you made up your mind about Chat GPT?
Hello everyone and welcome to this little space in the web where I always allow myself to bring you new topics related to the world of the web, design, marketing and new technologies that are being born more and more often and quickly.
Today I am here with a specific task, which is to dispel a myth. The myth of the AI (Artificial Intelligence) oppressor and bad guy who will send us all home without a job.
I would like to ask all those who have posted in their blogs and social media accounts” Do you really believe this? Or is it just the usual click bite to catch a few more views here and there?
Lately it’s easy to read in the shouty blogs (and even in the lesser ones) these bold headlines screaming at the top of their lungs “Caution,” “Emergency,” “Artificial intelligence is the chronic evil of our age,” “Content creators and authors won’t write anymore, Chat GPT will do it for them,” “Filmmakers will be replaced by computers,” and many other similar expressions and ideas that leave some dismayed but convince others of their veracity.
Ideas though, in my obvious opinion, sprung from minds that have perhaps not deigned to analyze the whole thing more closely. Indeed, it would be enough to look back at the history of the last century, or even of this century itself, and see how many times technological advances have created fear and discouragement in weak minds, fears that, however, always turned out to be useless and beliefs that later proved to be meaningless.
Let’s look, for example, at when the electric engine at the turn of the century was supplanted by the diesel engine, when then the gasoline engine outclassed the diesel engine. It’s not like the people who worked in a plant that built cars lost their jobs, they just adjusted to the change and acted accordingly, starting from corporate executives all the way down to those simpler positions.
Same thing with the invention of the electronic calculator, sure it was nice to use the abacus, with all those colored balls, how wonderful, but do we want to compare the advancement in productivity that a postwar company had once it installed an electronic calculator? (PS: the electronic calculator of the late 50’s was a huge machine the size of a room and punching paper ribbons to operate its calculations, see this one for instance [link]).
What happened to the abacus? It ended the same way of that of wooden ships pushed by the force of slaves rowing, the same end that tools of the Bronze Age had, the same end that typewriters had with the advent of word-processors first and personal computers later, the same end that the dial-up modem that allowed us to connect to the Internet through the telephone line 20 years ago had itself.
The above mentioned have all one thing in common. They’ve run out of time and given way to new technologies, tools, software, hardware, knowledge and lines of thought.
It’s called evolution and whether we want it or not it’s inevitable, it’s part of human beings and their history. That is why in this complex world, inhabited by predatory and strong animal species we (humankind not writers) nevertheless prevailed, because we evolved!
In short, to make a long story short, as nostalgic as the steam engine may be for some, or the glowing, black-and-white valve television, or the analog rotary telephone and who knows how many other things of the past that were once the “de facto” technology, it’s not like you can stop there, technologies, methods, science, knowledge….everything is subject to constant change and nothing stops.
So my advice to all colorful people who think they will lose their jobs because a robot will do better than them is simple. Adapt, find something you do well in your field and focus on that.
For example:
Are you a journalist, a newspaper writer, or do you write a blog? Well, yes it’s true that today there is less demand for your services, because all we have to do is ask Chat GPT and in a minute we end up with so much information, that we don’t even know what to do with it.
But take a good look at the fact that, your new job could instead be to verify that AI software is writing the right things, or you could specialize in writing prompts for software in AI for instance. You, who are an expert, could indeed be the best person for this new job. A job that only two years ago didn’t exist or was never heard of.
In short as you see, my advice is to embrace all these new things and find the solution not the problem!
I for one, use chat GPT, and I love it. I love it because it gives me help with, for example, coming up with headlines for a blog article, or because it helps me write an email in record time, or it creates a social media marketing plan for all of next month, or an outline for my next article.
I mean, I should be annoyed too because ever since Chat GPT and all the other software similar to it came out I’ve had fewer requests to write articles as a freelancer, maybe the agencies that used to give me contracts now use Chat GPT on their own, but… I see it differently, I think human interaction is still a very valuable thing and if an agency gives me a job they do it because they know how I do it and they’re okay with that method.
So as far as I’m concerned, I think there’s nothing wrong with the advent of AI these last few years, it’s just creating a diversification, certain jobs are less in demand but others are springing up now and are in high demand, so it’s up to all of us to get out of our comfort zone, adapt, learn a lot of new technologies and methods, apply them and then still be competitive.
Those who don’t want to follow this method, fine, they can always complain and go in search of colorful abacus and noisy, slow and jamming typewriters, who knows they might find one so they are happy.
All right and now after the preambles, since I want to show that I talk and act the same way, I invite you to check out this page here on my site [link] where I have jumped right in and created an online tool that allows you to generate your own Chat GPT prompts. Don’t worry, it’s free, you can use it whenever you need to and if you want you can also recommend [link] which features to add in case you have one on your mind that you don’t see there.
