A very good day to you all and welcome to DIY corner. Today we are going to talk of how to upgrade your Memory RAM Modules.
Pre arrangements:
By using your Windows System info software, or checking online at the vendor web site for your laptop, determine the specification of your existing Ram modules. In this case we have a DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 200pin
What do you need:
1-philips screwdriver
2-antistatic wrist strap
3-new RAM modules
Precautions:
As in every task when dealing with computers let’s talk safety first as we are going to open the laptop back panel and put our hands in to the inside components.
Let’s do it:
1- unplug your machine from the mains and turn the laptop upside down.
2- remove the battery
3- press the power button for about 8 seconds. This should be enough to dissipate the remaining current in the circuitry.
4- strap yourself with a safety anti static wrist bracelet, or if you don’t have one, touch some bare metal for a couple of seconds so that you can discharge any static electricity your body might hold.
5- turn your laptop upside down and locate the Memory back panel. Unscrew the security screws and open the panel.
6- you should have two slots for memories
7- carefully pull down the pins at the extremities of the RAM slot, the ram module should now pop out.
8- grab the module bi the extremities without touching the circuitry and place it in an anti-static bag.
9- open up the new ram module and insert it in the free slot by gently pushing down until you hear the firm noise of the pins closing
10- you can close the lid, fit the battery back and turn the laptop back in normal position.
11- test the memories by powering the machine, if no error beeps are heard on boot it is a good sign and the system should have recognised the new RAM, however, in order to check that this is actually working fine, please fire your system info app and check the amount of memory registered on board.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
If your System is not finding the new ram and is still showing the old amount of RAM try the following:
1- re-open the memory compartment and remove both modules.
2- insert the new module only on slot one, (the one nearest to the motherboard).
3- close the lid again and power up the laptop. If you hear a beep and the bios produces an on screen error you have great chances that the module is not compatible as we know that the slot 1 is working, this is were your RAM used to be until now.
I hope this tutorial has been informative, as usual, thank you for your time.
