I am often asked if it is still needed to submit a website to Google. There seem to be a bit of misunderstanding on this topic and that is why I am addressing it right now and right here.
If you have been long enough in the SEO business you probably know that you don’t need to submit a website to Google. So why is that the average Joe still doesn’t get it?
Are some of the SEO Gurus misleading the general public? Or perhaps this is just a myth we still carry with us since the very beginning of the Web era?
The role of Google in the web search arena
Google is one of the biggest search engines on the planet, if not “the biggest”, and its crawlers (AI spiders) are all over the internet. However, with this said, you still need to understand that Google doesn’t want to include everyone’s website on their search results. Google wants to find sites that are unique to each individual page.
You can check out Google’s webmaster tools and see the crawls that Google has performed on your site. If you are wondering how Google decides which web sites they will include in their search results, it is based mostly off of the quality of your content. A good amount of quality content will ensure that your site will be included in Google.
Don’t get discouraged though. Google is a giant and they are only as successful as their algorithms. It means that even if a site has not had a submission done to it, Google could still rank it very high. However, the process of getting your site listed by Google may be a little more complicated than what you may think.
Introducing “Directory Submission” vs submit a website to Google
The first step in Google’s web crawler submission process is a “directory submission“. This is done by a directory submission company. They submit your web site to a major search engine so that web crawlers can find your site. The crawlers then scan the directory looking for relevant links to your website and find them by relevance.
The reason directory submission is used is because it is the most effective way to get a website to rank higher in Google’s search engine results. If you don’t have a lot of backlinks to your site, then this will be important.
The other reason that directory submission is used is because it is a fast and free way of submitting your site to Google. It also provides back links to other sites which will increase your ranking.
The next thing that you need to know when you want to know how do you get your website indexed by Google is that you need to submit your web site to a variety of directories. The more submissions that you have made to these directories the better chance that Google will find your site.
Ways to submit a site
There are two different ways that you can submit your site: one is through a webmaster submission service and the other is through a Google directory submission service. Using a webmaster submission service will cost you money but using a Google directory submission service will cost you only your time and effort.
The other thing that you need to know when you want to know how do you submit a website to Google is how to submit your site “manually” through Google. You can do this yourself, but it can be a daunting task.
The reason that it can be a difficult task is because there are so many guidelines that you need to follow. Luckily there are services that will do all of the work for you, making directory submission much easier for the novices or for those with limited time to spend in this mundane tasks.
If you are looking for a way to make sure that your website gets indexed by Google quickly, directory submission is the method that you need to choose. Not only is directory submission fast and easy, but you can avoid having to spend a lot of money to get your site noticed by Google.
By doing a little bit of research online you should be able to find a service that offers directory submission to make sure that Google is contacting your site the minute that they are meant to.
