Sometimes even the most simple editing can be a difficult task if you are not an expert of the imaging software that you are using. Here is a quick tutorial on how to drop a shadow to an image using Adobe Photoshop CS6.
To begin with, open the image that you want to edit by right clicking on it and choosing “Open With” from the menu choice, then select Photoshop, or double click on it if Photoshop is already the default image editing software your system is set to.
STEP 1 – Open Image with Photoshop

STEP 2 – Double click to unlock
Now that you have your image open, from the bottom right panel, on the layers tab, double click the background layer and select OK on the window prompt. You have now unlocked it and can apply loads of changes to that layer.

STEP 3 – Enlarge Canvas
Use the combination keys Ctrl+Alt+C to launch the canvas size configuration panel. From here add 1 inch from both width and height values. Remember to select the “Relative” checkbox.

Image 5 – Select the checkbox “Relative” and add 1 inch to the values.
STEP 4 – Add a layer style
From the bottom right of the screen, click on the “fx” icon to add a layer style. Now choose the last item from the bottom on the menu pop up window, (Drop Shadow).

STEP 5 – Configure your shadow properties
From the Layer Style pop up windows you can now select the blend mode type, the color, opacity angle and size of the shadow.

That’s it, you have now successfully added a shadow to your image.
