Sliced Invoices billing solution for WordPress

When working as a freelancer, even if sporadically, you will have found yourself in a situation of having to issue an invoice for a client and not being prepared. Maybe then in the end you you quickly made one in excel or word (finding an online template) and everything got solved.
However, when you start to work less sporadically, obviously by increasing the amount of work, the need to have a billing system begins to be felt.

Previous billing solutions

Personally, I have always used an Opensource self-hosted software called Invoiceplane which, however, depending on the server where it is installed, can occasionally give problems … or at least this in my case. Anyway, I have been using this system for years, until recently after receiving monthly bills for the hosting service from AWS that really became too high for my full pandemic budget, I decided to migrate my sites to another (much cheaper) server.

The catch of cheap hosting

Obviously cheaper also means “more painful” … and yes, the billing system for example wsa the payinfll part. After reinstalled there was no way to make it work decently. Payments with PayPal always ended up in errors, the PHP mail function and also that of SMTP always resulted in errors. In short, after having tried far and wide I had to find an alternative.

Trying a little here and there I was not very satisfied, the I though I had finally found one and purchased a lifetime deal with that cloud software but ultimately, I was not able to use because of faults it had and I experienced only after a few days of using it. To make a long story short, I was running out of options, I had to ask for a refund because there was really no way with that too.

But then, I remembered a client of a couple of years ago. I had installed a plugin in their WordPress and they used just for that function, namely: Quote and Invoices.

After some digging into hard drives with old and known backups of the task management systems we have at work, I found the name and surprisingly, they were still in business.

At this point I said to myself: Is it worth installing a standalone software that requires a MySql database and additional maintenance or can I just try to install this plugin in my blog in WordPress and use this to make my invoices?

Well I chose number two and installed the plugin which is Sliced Invoices billing solution for WordPress.

What does Sliced Invoices billing solution for WordPress do

This plugin does exactly and nothing more than issuing quotes and invoices, but it does it well, indeed as I see it very well. Unlike other software that once installed in a PHP environment would need additional configurations for functions such as email (PHPmail / SMTP), Sliced Invoices uses the solution you have configured in your WordPress so there is no need for re-inventing the wheel. Emails with invoices can be sent to customers with one click.

Generating an invoice is simple, just choose the products / services from a list that you can prepare before and save for later use, or by adding a new product while preparing the invoice.

As for clients, they need to be added as users in your WordPress. There is no need to contact them and give them the account details, or at least not in my case because I don’t need them to log in. Know that the invoices you prepare are also available online and the system also has a very precious mailing system with a template already prepared and with which you can contact them to let them know that their invoice is ready and that they can visit a web page and see it.

Note that if you configure PayPal you also have a button in the invoice (top left) that links the invoice to your account so that your customers can pay you securely with PayPal and with just one click.

The premium version also offers a PDF invoice download, so if you need this feature, you can have it.

Where to find it

What else to say, I’m very satisfied and all in all I think Sliced Invoice has great value in my WordPress plugin arsenal. I hope it is useful to you too. This article and quick review was written to help those like me who always need to improve in their work and have to fill many tasks while having very little time to spare for administration.

So if you’ve tried everything and still can’t find the right solution for your billing system, take a look at their plugin at this URL: https://wordpress.org/plugins/sliced-invoices/ I have not been paid nor have an affiliate account, mine is just pure admiration for what they offer even in the simple free version which is the one I have for now.
