Not all of us were ready for it, so what happens when you are not working from you Office PC where an IT manager or team is taking care of the security for you? Well, this time you are going to take care of yourself and your data.

BUT HOW?
In this small brochure we are going to give you some advice on how to keep yourself and your  employer or clients data safe and sound at all times.

PASSWORDS

DO

  1. Create your own unique passwords
  2. Use a Dictionary for inspirations
  3. Use a mix of letters, numbers and punctuation or special characters

DON’T

  1. Reuse the same password on multiple accounts (hackers always try all your account with the same user / password combinations)
  2. Write on a post it near your PC
  3. Write on a text file without encryption or being password protected

CONNECTIONS

WHEN YOU ARE NOT AT YOUR OFFICE AND YOU HAVE TO WORK ON YOUR PC

  1. Avoid the use of a computer that you share with your flatmates or family (someone migh be doing activities on this PC that have compromised its security and therefore your work connection might be in jeopardy too.
  2. Make sure your computer is running proper antivirus software, has been serviced recently, has all the updates required for your operating system and the software you run.
  3. Use only secure connections. Do not connect on internet cafe or other public places that could have already been compromised.
  4. Absolutely refrain from using the PC where you keep your work to spend leisure time on the web an stream media from insecure websites or portals.

EMAIL

  2. Reply to emails or click on links in emails asking you to reset a password if you are not sure to have requested that reset and that the sender is the real one.
  3. Keep emails with passwords that were sent from your bank or workplace. Copy that information onto your password manager or other application that encrypts the data and delete those emails.

EMAIL

If you are using an ipad or a mobile for work, keep that to a minimum and only use channels that you are sure are allowed from your work security perspective.

Avoid sharing files if you are not at home and are sharing a connection in a public place.

GENERAL

ON A PUBLIC PLACE

Never leave your belongings unattended, especially if you have your PC on and you are logged into any of your work accounts.

WEBCAM

If you are not using your webcam you can cover it with masking tape which is easy to remove and will prevent from remote hackers spying on you.

microphone

Similarly to the webcam, if you are not using it turn it off from the settings. You will avoid your audio being recorded in case you computer gets compromised.

IN CONCLUSION

You might think this is too much, it’s never going to happen to me and so on….well think again…we read  of computer crimes committed every day everywhere…most if not all the victims did say the same…it’s not going to happen to me. Remember that it is definitely better be… Safe than sorry..!
