Compressing images with squoosh.
Another incredible little utility that will make the job of compressing images for the web a breeze. You no longer have to use big name software that takes minutes to open and load all their heavy configuration files.

Where to find squoosh
Squash can be found at this URL: https://squoosh.app/
Compressing images, how to use it
You can use it live from their site or download it to your PC. As this is a web app, it works with your browser and therefore does not need to install files on your PC. This utility is very light, fast and works right away … you don’t have to wait. If you prefer that your files do not end up in the cloud, then squoosh is the perfect app for you as it works directly on your browser and does not need to upload the file to be able to compress it.
What does it do
Squash can compress PNGs and convert them into jpeg files, it can resize an image based on the percentage or measurements you choose. But be careful with PNGs with a transparent background because when you convert them to jpeg the assigned background is black, so if you want to resize an image with a transparent background this utility is not for you.
Who is it for
All in all this utility is great for making a quick resize / compression of one or two photos to add to a page of your blog or an item to add in an e-commerce etc. If, on the other hand, you need a utility to resize and compress images in bulk then visit this link where last time we proposed another fantastic free utility with which you can compress and resize entire image folders. The bulk resize tool is also portable and works standalone from the browser.
Compressing images via terminal
Hu… almost forgot to point out that if you also have the desire and time to experiment … The developers at squoosh have even created a version to be used in the command line (squoosh / cli). Note that it is still in the experiment phase, but if you are already used to web assembly, then you just have to try that too and maybe you prefer it.
Here’s how to run or install the terminal version
PS: Via npx you can use squoosh cli without having to install it but directly from the terminal.

$ npx @ squoosh / cli <options ...>

If you want to install it instead

$ npm i -g @ squoosh / cli
$ squoosh-cli <options ...>

If you want to see how to configure the cli version in full you can follow this link of the developers at squoosh
